Default torque cones question

What is the proper order - cones, gasket, pipes or gasket, cones, pipes?
Looks like it can go either way.

Sorry, I disagree. Cone, gasket then the pipe. How else will you get a seal between the pipe and cone? When done the way I recommend the gasket will seal the pipe to cone and the crushed gaskets outer edge will seal the port so that nothing gets by the cone. Actually the more I think about it both ways may work, but by putting the gasket in after the cone there will be no way the gasket can crush and block the port.

Do torque cones really give you more torque? Do they change the sound? Do you run them with or without baffles? Do they work with slip-ons?

Proper order is gasket, pipe, then torque cone in the trash. Sorry if I said it too harshly but how will choking off your head pipes help anything? Everyone talks about getting the proper gasket to put in the head for the exhaust so it wont crush into the exhaust flow. Be prepared to take'm right back out.

I have used torque cones in the past in a bike that did not have the best combination of parts and it did help a lot. They are probably best for bikes with straight pipes etc.

Yes that would be a use for them in that case that you spoke of. However I would just be considering that a band-aid on a problem that needs to stitched up.

Exactly, maybe a band aid or a cheap way for someone to gain some torque. I have an old set I will donate if someone wants to give them a try.
