I'm using th se stage 1 kit. I'm pretty sure it's the same set-up they put on the trikes except for the cams. The compression ratio is 9.6 to 1.

Thumbs up I'd do the releases...

You'll eventually blow your starter up on hot days if you don't....cheap security for long-term starter and battery health.

If you don't you'll kick yourself later!

I have a 103ci on my 06 CVO Fat Boy and have problems with hot starts, I have tried what Old Gunny said. turn the ignition and hit start. Most of the time this helps. also I have tried waiting for the fuel pump to finish ( aprox. 3 seconds ) I then crack the throttle a little and hit start, this also seems to work. NOW the end of Jan. I am discovering that this CVO won't start when it's cold. Like 25 or 30 degrees, what the heck. wanted to go for a burn today. 30 deg. and sunny, would not start?

A couple of guys that build engines said if you buy heavy duty battery cables that it will make all the difference in the world how a high comp engine cranks, my build will be 190 ccp and no releases, just heavy cables.

Are you sure your static CR is 10:1? You are either running a domed piston and have not decked the heads or you are running flat tops and have taken a big slice off the heads. If you are running domed pistons, setting squish/quench is more of a concern than CR. If flat tops, you have taken a big slice off the heads valve to piston clearance is not likely an issue but worth checking. Actually with either setup, the top end should be mocked up and squish and V to P clearances checked.

It has been about 35 years since I got on a bike in 30 Deg. F. temp.

Another thing I have found with FI bikes is sometime there is too much CRANKING FUEL. When hot. Try cutting that back. Cold I don't know, mine seems to start easier when cold.

If you have a way to adjust the ECM, one of the SERT's or TTS maybe others, every single thing is adjustable. Able to go to the sorce of the problem.
