Default Stage 1 Question

Getting ready to pick up the new scoot and get to work removing parts. I've heard two schools of thought about installing the Stage 1 kit. One says wait for 1k miles, the other says it doesn't matter and you can do it before break in is through. I'd appreciate any input you guys have.

When you buy new the shop rebuilds to stage two under warranty. Stage one should be no problem. Just make sure to read everything before you install you air breather and pipes in case to have to revert.

My follow up question to that, is if I modify the motor before the manufacturer's specified break in, am I voiding out the warranty?

Seems like it would depend on who does the work. If it's the dealer, probably. Just make sure the dealer puts the warranty guarantee on your receipt you get for any work they do.

If you look in the parts book, almost anything you buy has that void warranty warning on it. Seems like it pretty much boils down to each dealer and how far they are willing to go for their customers. An ethical dealer should not have any issues with warranty claims that are obviously not a direct result of any changes you make (especially if you use SE parts).

unfortunately it's going to be up to the dealer you take the bike too.. our local dealer is usualy pretty good - what they have told me in the past is that if i took off the "non-stock" part and put the original back on, would it still have broken. If the answer is yes, then they will usually cover it. Fortunately i haven't had to test this theory out yet....

there is a document (forgot the name) that the dealer fills out and sends to moco...if you have dealer install stage 1 before you take delivery and include the modifications on that document, you're covered under warranty

all the new bikes i've had are professionally tuned immediately...they come very lean and the igntion is retarded from the factory...a proper tune will cool it off, maintain fuel mileage, and make a lot better power

Good to know. I've normally hopped on and gone until I get about 1k miles on, then swap parts. I've got techs telling me, yeah do it ahead it doesn't matter if you do it right. I've got the true duals, Fuel Pak, and Arlen Ness Big Sucker ready to go. Killing me to wait for delivery!
