Default Choke problems on Magnetti Marelli inijection

Hi, I just have bought a 2001 Road King with Magnetti Marelli inijection and Cobra Fi2000 fuell manager. The problem is that when I start the bike I have to use the throtle to get it running and keep it reved up till the engine gets its temperature. Than everything works ok. Seams like the "choke" is not working, any idea what could it be????

Well the MM system is not what most would call a trouble free system.

Most times you will find that it can be several of these items. Engine temp sensor, TPS, worn or broken stepper motor, dirty fuel filter, incorrect injectors. The red version is what needs to be in that bike. Intake seal leak.

As well correctly setting hot and cold idle.

i have never seen a DFO type fuel adder that works very well , add that into a MM system and I cannot say how it would act. Most install a PC USB III and tune the bike from there. But on stock bikes the system can be adjusted and work decent for the most part. The cold start issue is a very common item.

When we start to work on them for a tune or a tune up,.. we replace fuel filter first as most have never done it, the TPS and engine temp are very common items to start reading erratic. promoting running issues.

Get your self a service manual and start from there. Do the hot/cold set up and see if that corrects the issue. Some people will just adjust the screw for the idle without checking the rest. The issue with that is the TPS then can get out of spec and that only creates more of an issue.

For starters, clean the throttle body with brake clean or throttle body cleaner. Be sure to clean the holes at the top of each throat. They control the idle air flow.

If that doesn't help, roll the throttle until you can see the cold idle set screw on the linkage. Adjust in to increase start up idle speed. At least 1/8 or 1/4 turn. If that helps remove the right side cover and remove the 5 and 15 amp fuse for 15 min. to allow the old setting to reset to the new setting.
