drilling screaming eagle baffles
they are wrapped in a glasspack made up of an inner screen mesh then glass cord wrappingg with glass insulation over it like a sleeve so to speak.the baffles themselves are for backpresure this is important as we all know so i didnt want to remove them so heres what i did
i drilled the baffles out there was 18-5/16" holes i added 18 more inline with the same spacing.removed the glass pack/sleeve thingy then re-installed them..
ok so i fired it up,and it was louder for sure took it for a spin and wow way more torque at lower rpm and its not holding back it revs quicker than before..these were the screaming eagle performance shotgun slip ons NOT the stock cans..the stock cans have a 1-1/4" main pipe the SE pipes are 1-3/4" so doing this mod to stock pipes is a waste of time imo
my final thought
the bike sounds like a harley should, has more bottom end grunt ,and revs quicker than before
so the area of the 18 holes is half the area of the inlet pipe thats why i added 18 more..
heres the math area = radias squared X pi
update: just got in from the shop took my brothers SE2's off his 2003 sportster and removed the baffles there is no glasspack inside and the tube that is completely closed off on my pipes is open about 10% allowing a small amout straight through the pipe, and there is 25-5/16" holes ..this is obviously why they were deemed illegal by the epa..

Do you think I could just raise that deflector without actually removing the baffle?
Do u have to detach the slipon to get at the baffle or is their no baffle in there?
