Carb problems?
I think it's about time for some "rum"
a little coke and a lotta rum!!!, hey that's it!!!! Cap'n Morgan instead of gas!!,,, that'll fix it...... [8D]Sounds like you're going the right direction, keep going one step at a time and don't get frustrated..... you're not lost yet....
First off, go ride for 10-15 min., adjust your mixture screw with the motor hot, at a slow idle, like DJ outlined, then change a plug and go ride 10-20 miles and do a plug chop to read it. ( I only do the front plug till I get right, unless I foul out the rear one) look in the DIY section on the forum for how to do a plug chop (if you don't already know how to do it). if it is still too rich at highway speeds, move the clip another notch up, then if that's still too rich, or your mileage really sucks, ditch the whole stupid DJ kit, and go with a set-up as outlined by mp and murphdog, with a 42 slow, stock main with stock emulsion tube, stock needle, (may need to be shimmed up, you'll have to experiment with that) or a sporty needle, # 27094-88 you may be able to get away with your drilled slide.
Read all of the DIY forums on carb adjusting and set up tips, I am just repeating info that I have found there and other places on cv carb tuning.
If you still can't get it to behave, ask around locally and the forum for a good shop in your area and pay them to get it right.....
again, good luck,
K.
