Default Inner cam bearing removal advice

Do I need to buy the special inner bearing puller or will a regular blind bearing puller work. The only reason I am unsure is because I have read a lot about those bearings coming apart and needle bearings falling in the engine. Also do you need the expensive puller because there is not enough room behind the bearing for a normal puller?

Thanks

For my 07 Dyna I borrowed the blind bearing puller from Autozone and it worked great.

I bought one from Harbor freight for about $40. Worked great.

I used the one from Gary Beatty. High quality, very reasonable price, and worked great. Do a search on the forum as I don't have his contact info handy. Good luck!

Auto Zone free rental. Lubed the new ones and tapped them in using a rubber mallet and the old cams. They go in real easy.

They go in even more easy if you throw them in the freezer for a little while before installing.

As a jet engine mechanic, I have used heat to install bearings, but we never chill a bearing because of condensation.

Heat the case with a heat gun.

I can understand the stricter standards for aircraft.
Not a whole lot of surface area on these little bearings and you also follow up with assembly lube forced betweeen the needles.

I'm kind of leary of blowing dust and dirt into the inside of my engine case with a heat gun.

I certainly understand the theory behind your statement and don't fault you for it.

Yep, did that too... lol

Condensation, on small bearings that were wrapped and packed with some sort of lube to keep from rusting while on the shelf... least of my worries, as if that would even happen.
