Here's what I use, and have never had problems. I just the stock Harley rocker box, primary, cylinder base, cam cover, and tranny cover gaskets. I use the Cometic .030 head gaskets. I have never seen any James gaskets that work any better then the HD ones, although I will use them if I can't get the stock ones. Why pay more if you don't have to?
The main reason for leaks is due, not to the type of gaskets, but to improper surface preparation and improper torquing procedures. Always make sure the mating surfaces are clean, smooth, and flat, and that the gaskets are in good condition. I've reused the stock primary gaskets several times with no leaks. DO NOT use any gasket sealant unless called for by the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL. I see a lot of folks using RTV to fix a leak, when all they need to do is remove the parts, clean them up, and make sure they are smooth and flat. Then install them as per the factory manual. You don't want any RTV getting into your oil system... it could cause a blockage that will result in engine damage.
