Spark knock

Default Spark knock

I have an '09 ElectraGlide with rush slip-ons, Power Commander, and an Arlen Ness Big Air kit. I just had the bike dynoed and the horsepower was increased by 10%. I had them to check the program on the Commander and make sure I had the right one because I had some knock. Now, if I take off @ low rpm's, I get a lot more spark knock. The service teck told me they had increased the gas to air mix and now I can smell the bike running rich. Any suggestions.

One of the reasons I went with the TTS is the ability to adjust timing and take data to see what was happening to my ride. I would suggest you might contact Fuel Moto and get some help here. If you think you are running rich then fuel is apparently not your problem. I would hope you have confidence in your tuner to resolve you problem, otherwise another tuner might be a wise decision?

Did the tuner adjust the timing. Looks like around 4 degrees need to be taken out.

Additional Spark Advance and/or a Richer Mixture . . . up to a point . . . can deliver more power over stock settings. However, it sounds like your Tuner went way overboard on both. Backing them both off a bit will get you even more power. It sounds like a Machete was used when a Scalpel was all that was needed. Also, there's not much of a point in cranking in extra Spark Advance or Fuel until you have a throttle opening that indicates that you want maximum power. Usually 60% to 80% throttle indicates the rider is asking for maximum power or something close to it. Running a rich mixture at low throttle openings does nothing but waste fuel, foul spark plugs, wash down cylinder walls and dilute your oil to say nothing of making it really annoying for anyone who is riding behind you.
