Default Tuner problems?

Posted this in tech forums but there seems to be low traffic there so I'm posting here too:

Hey all, 2009 fxstb with derby sucker intake, d&d fat cat pipes, power commander V auto tuner. Been having problems lately using too much fuel. Took my plugs out and they smell like gas, so I'm assuming it's getting too much fuel? My mileage has gone down too. I have SE plugs and wires on order that will be picked up tomorrow. Wonder if that will help, or if I should ditch the auto tune and buy a SERT?

It's my guess that new plugs and wires will not solve your problem but it's good practice to eliminate simple items before moving on to more complex components. Check the gap on your plugs. Insure that your air filter is clean. Using your service manual, test your coil.

I believe you're running rich due to the tune provided by the Power Commander. If you decide to change tuners, Stay Away from the SERT! Look in to Dynojet's Power Vision. Great device!

Definitely stay away from the SEPST, unless you want to take it to the dealer and have them put it on a dyno.
Unlike most tuners these days, the SEPST is NOT user-friendly at all.

IMO more than likely what your seeing with the plugs are a result of the problem and not the cause, unless the plugs are way past their change interval. Start with the simple stuff, clean air filter element, fresh plugs and take a ride. When you get back pull the plugs and take a look at the plugs, sill heavy gas smell or even wet? then start to trouble shoot for an overfueling condition. Fuel Pressure Regulator, TPS or MAP sensor readings could be off. are there any codes? Check engine lights? I'm not familiar with that tuner, but is there away to hook up a laptop or any other kind of reader to look at a data list to see what is actually going on in real time? Something could be causing the injectors to overfuel. It's possible that the electronics in your tuner are breaking down and not keeping your fuel where it needs to be, but this would be one of the last places I would look for the problem.

If you get stuck, call or email the guys over at Fuel Moto be sure to tell them your a member of this forum, their reputation for customer service on this forum is top notch

My first thoughts would be your O2 sensors. They get plugged or burnt out from additives, bad gas, or whatever, they can't send a proper signal. They read the AFR after all.

Default X2 for Fuel Moto

I have a 2011 Fat boy, wife has a 2013 Fat boy, both have a fuel moto micro tuners. They both run great, I called them, told them all the mods on each bike plus what I bought from them. The rest was plug and play. There maybe better tuners out there but they are the best for the money. IMHO

Over fueling is used to cool the engine. I have the Power Vision, the bike had a heavy gas smell until I auto tuned it a few times to tune it in. Now the smell is gone and my mileage went up.
If you have any backfiring, adding more fuel in the tune usually stops it.

If you have Auto Tune, run it a few times to dial it in.

Unplug all of the connections to the tuner and reconnect. Perhaps check the connections while you have them apart to see if there are any bent pins.
If that fails, call Fuel Moto, they have great customer service.
