2011 SE 110 Engine Noise
I think if I had one and had this issue, which may or not be serious in the end, I would get this Dealer decision or openion, "Documented".
A real document with witnesses. And Notorised.
After all the research I've done on this forum, I've concluded:
- Most people say these noises are normal
- If you approach the dealer, they will always say its "normal"
- Tolerences between bikes vary, so some may be quieter than others
- these big twins "make all kinds of noises", just ignore
- Install louder pipes or turn up the tunes to drown the noise
- Touring bikes have fairings a lowers that deflect noise more
Honestly, not much help.. This slapping/tapping noise between the RPMs you listed is driving me nuts.. I want to think this is piston slap, and is just more pronouced on larger displacement bikes?
Going into 1K service soon, will mention this, but will expect it's "normal" reply... ugh...

I like the idea of having a non biased rider checking it all out. Also... JohnnyBoy is dead on the money about a fairing equipped bike.
They really ALL do this in one degree or another.
I got pissed at my last bike and spent over $1500 to see if I could figure out anything that the rest of the world hadn't figured out. No such luck, but I DID end up with one STOUT valvetrain for sure! HAHA

There ARE a few things that lessen this a bit... the biggest being oil. 20w-50 Harley syn turns to water when hot. I usually use a dino oil that's 20-60. OR Redline 60 wt racing oil, which is a syn product and is actually 20-60. Read the gazillion oil threads on here.... hahah!!!!
I, nowadays, just get used to whatever noise a bike makes and then from THAT point keep track of any NEW noises as the mileage piles on.

Kinda like my aches and paines. Just notice the new ones.
It is time for me to put in the Summer 20-60 Redline. Summer snuke up on me. Got to 96 yesterday. A little further south got to 107. Oh well beats a Tornator
Check the documentation with Racing Oil.
Some really are racing oils and have few additives, specially no detergent, because they figure you change out every race.
This is not good for the street.
