Cracked block
My 2006 Duce has a crack in the block,can this be welded to stop the oil from leaking? I tightened the allen bolt at bottom of motor to tight causing a 1 inch crack along the bolt.

Depending on xactly where the crack is yes your case can be welded to do a proper job the cases would have to be dismantled and the crack welded from the inside as well ..when welding alum or alum alloy it has to be pre -heated and then cooled after the welding slowly the thicker the piece the longer it stays in the oven and cools slower .... my pan cases are welded up on the inside ,,,if there is oil coming out of the crack now all that oil has to be cleaned out of there to weld it

I got a set of 88 cases that are cracked as well, cracks are right on the top deck around the cylinder holes. Pretty sure the cracks are only on the left side case and if I remember right the numbers are on the right. It's either repair or try to find a left case. they have been sitting in a box in my garage for years and I havn't looked at em in a while. At the time it was quicker to just throw a new motor in to get back riding, it was a good excuse for a bigger motor too. Could these be welded ? I'd like to put that motor back together one of these days.

Anything can be welded BUT will it stay fixed? first you have to figure out why it cracked and if the stress is still there it will crack again ....also depending on where the crack is does it affect any tolerences ..if something cracks it has moved so you can be putting something out of alignment by just welding the crack ...and then you have to have the surface machined back to the correct tolerences ....if needed .so sometimes it is cheaper just to buy new
