Default 99 Road King mufflers "slip" toward engine

I have a 99 Road King. I've owned it about a year and during that time I've had a continuing problem of the right-side muffler "slipping" in toward the engine. The left-side muffler stays at a constant position but the right-side will "move" forward toward the engine after going for a short ride. I've pulled the muffler out and tightened the heck out of the muffler clamp but after one ride it gets sucked back in toward the engine. Has anyone ever had this problem before? If so, how the heck did you fix it? It's really not causing me any problem other than the mufflers aren't even with each other toward the back of the bike. Help???

I've had the problem on my '99 RK, but I don't think it's a '99 or a RK issue.

Make sure on the muffler inlet, there should be the slits that allow the the muffler to be tightened or squeezed. I've had it were they were not as open as they should be so I took a small grider and made it bigger. Also, you can buy at the auto parts store high-temp silicone. You could apply that to help with the slipping.

And one super important thing is to get a new torqua (sp) clamp from the dealership. Old ones may not tighen as much as a new one.

Make sure to keep the clamp within the slits distance. If you get above the slits where the pipe is solid you lose the ability to squeeze the muffler pipe to the exhaust pipe. As said previously you might want to get a new clamp.

I've gotten several suggestions saying to buy a new clamp. Will do in the AM. Will also take the muffler off and check the slits. Thanks.

Well folks I've got it fixed. All it took was a new muffler clamp. Plus I made sure to align the clamp even with the slots on the muffler. Tightened the heck out of the sucker using 1/2 inch drive socket. Thanks for all your help.
