My 89 FLHTCU has 190 pounds compression. The service manual says 90 pounds. I hear that the previous owner had some motor work done.
My question is:
How will this effect my bike?
Hard on starters?
High octane fuel?
Will a new 1.4kw starter and 400 CCA battery keep it starting?
Should I go with stock compression pistons while the engine is out?
I installed mine using a Jims tool kit to install them. It bolts to the head and comes with a drill guide bushing and drill bit that machines the hole and the land for the compression release's seal in one operation. It's actually pretty simple and easy with the tool and the heads off. I was lucky in that a buddy was a HD tech at the time and was albe to borrow the tool from work for me. If you have to buy the tool I strongly suspect it'd be more cost effective to take or ship your heads to someone and have them do it. I'm sure Hillside Cycle, a regular contributor here, can hook you up. And 195 psi seems to be common for hi perf HD engines.
We set most of our performance kits at 195-200 ccp.
BTW, best check those lifters as the Moco, sent out a service bulliten in regards to "inspect/replace" @ 25,000 miles.
You DO NOT want a lifter roller getting tangled into the pump.
