Default 103" Mod

I am currently pushing 86HP and 105TQ on my 2007 Dyna Lowrider. I talked to Bob Wood with Wood cams today and told him what I have on my bike. He told me to run the wood TW 8-6 cams and I will be pushing at least 110 hp and at least 115 ftlbs. My Heads can accomodate a .585 lift and the cam has a .590, but he said that I will not have to worry about the clearance due to the lifters never give or let the cam do an actual full lift and it is only 5 thousandths of an inch. I also talked to him about the throttle body and he referred me to Jimmy with Horse Power INC. I talked to Jimmy and he said I should go with the 55MM throttle body with a bigger Air intake and injectors (5.9 gram). Should I run with this set-up? Do I need a bigger T/B and intake/injectors? I was thinking about just doing the cams and maybe injectors. Does anyone else have this? Also, I just want to see what else I will need to get if I put the cams in. Ie.. different tuner, tappets, lifters, pushrods(perfect fit or adjustable), clutch, etc...

These are the P/Ns for all of the big ticket items I am running.
1690 ST II KIT P/N: 29893-07A (flat top pistons/255 cams)
SE MCR Pro Heads P/N: 16952-08
ST 1 EFI Kit P/N: 29773-02C
EFI Race Tuner P/N: 32107-01L
RineHart Dual Exhaust
Thanks again for all the helpful information.

How do you feel about how your bike is running currently ...?

There are a couple of issues you need to address ... how do you ride? ... where do you want the cam to come on ...? If you want to win a dyno shoot out, you aren't there ...

You may well be happy with a different cam ... maybe look at a Woods 555 or Andrews 37 or 48 ...?

One of the things about going with the recommended cam and the bigger throttle body is they will increase high RPM horsepower numbers ... the TB higher flow contribution will be at the expense of your lower end ... not sure about the characteristics of the 8-6 cams ....

I've got the same heads and I had to go with the SE perfect fit pushrods ... I think .030 under the stock length ... however, you may already be running them (did you do the work or someone else?) .... If the 'base circle' of the cams you end up with are the same as your 255s (which I believe have same base circle as stock) ... then you can reuse the pushrods you have ... else adjustable would be a viable option ....

Good luck figuring out the next round of mods to your motor ... hope it turns out the way you want ....

When you have your ducks in a row, that 8 cam will push off about 15 more hp, or more, than the cubic inch, on an engine of that size.
A good set of heads, along with the compression at 10.8 will be part of the equation to insure those results.
We know this cold, as we've worked with that cam on MANY builds, since the mid-ninties. The 8 cam will show 90 plus hp/90 plus ft/lbs on 80" Evo's any day of the week.
Gails H-D in Grand View, MO, recently built a 107" with our pistons/Wood 8 cam/110" CVO heads re-worked by us.
Bike rolled off 120 ft/lbs, 129 hp.
We too have seen that same power on local dynos, from that very similar combo.

Dont care about dyno sheets or a lot of top end over 80mph. 255s are not bad. just want a bit more. Really just want to be able to get there real quick. So T/B, intake, injectors? Are my heads going to be able to keep up with these cams?

From your riding description I would think that you would be happier with a wood 555 or 6-6. You can see from my sheet that the 8-6 is more of a mid to upper rpm cam. Goes like a raped ape though.

Thanks Scott, thinking of ditching the pipes in favor of a Bassani 2 into 1, road rage exhaust. Definitely think the pipes I have now are holding it back a little.

Well just so happens I do care about dyno charts, as they are the indicator that can be scutinized, to allow us to look our engine builds for you folks.
The cam will go in as long as you have collar to seal clearence, and proper clearence prior to coil bind.
T/body?? 55 HPI, with a 1.800" manifold.
Injectors?? You won't know until you get in on a "dyno" to tune it.
Heads keep up?? What is the flow on those from .100" lift to .600" lift @ 10"??

This is what I am thinking that I will end up doing.
Send 46MM stock throttle body to HPI 48MM T/B port and Polish.
TW-7H wood cam.
SE adjustable tapered push rods.
Then get a dyno/tune.

These are the parts - P/Ns for all of the big ticket items I am running.
