Black Ops Lifter Bleed Down ?
I just got back from what will be the hottest 2 day 1300 mile ride ever from NC through VA, WVA, OH, PA, MD, VA and then back home.
During the hottest times of the day, that motor sounded like a bucket of bolts was loose and more 'normal' ( it purrs,) as things were cooler in the morning and evenings.
But yesterday at the fuel stops, a lifter noise started that does not seem heat related. If the bike sits for just 10 minutes hot, a restart causes that clacking sound that at first made me think that something was wrong with the gear drive cams.
After a minute or two, the lifter pumps back up and the bike runs fine.
The Black Ops lifters were installed at the same time as the gear drive cams with adjustable pushrods with 81,000 miles on the motor, 18 months ago. The odometer now reads 112,000.
So tomorrow morning I do what? Establish which lifter is loose and replace it? Re-adjust all the pushrods first and see if that takes care of the bleed down issue? Replace the set just for good measure? I assume there is no "fix" or cleaning process to perform on the lifter itself. Or call the folks at Head Quarters on Monday?
I'm sure I can run it as long as I get the lifters to pump up before taking off while I figure this out.
Thanks to all for advice as I've never dealt with a lifter issue until now.
