Hey Guys, thought I would ask on here before I mess with anything. I did a 107" with cam, heads, etc last season and have about 6-7k miles on the motor since. The last 500 miles I've been hearing a rattle in the what sounds like the heads at 2700-3000 rpm. It's gotten worse since I first noticed it. Sounds like a loose pushrod; somewhat similar sound to when I first started the bike after build and needed tightening the push rods more.
Wanted to see if they can come loose after a while; I pulled the covers and 3 of 4 pushrods can be turned by hand and the 4th is tight. Can't remember how tight they should be and if any of them should be able to be turned by fingers. I remember it was a pretty primitive instruction for install. I think it was get finger tighted and then turn 25 1/4 turns or something like that.
Edit, they are S&S pushrods and not 25 1/4 turns but 4-4 1/2 turns or 24-27 flats. Im going to loosen all four and retighten and see if this takes care of it
You need to do these adjustments with the cylinder on compression cylinder top dead center. Put bike in top gear and rotate the rear wheel till you see one set of rods moving from exhaust to intake as you push pull tire. At this point the other cylinder is ready for adjustment.
asm481 gives good advice. If an adjustor nut comes loose, it will usually back all the way off and can cause major damage. Use a tiny bit of red loctite when adjusting this time to insure they cannot come loose in the future.
