Default Dyna 88 Exaust

I have a 2006 Street Bob with a stock exhaust. I have wrapped the front pipes with header wrap. I now want to put mufflers on it with as little trouble as possible. I want it to be louder then it is now. I am worried that if I change the mufflers, the dealership won’t dial in the air/fuel right. If I don’t go to the dealer, my warranty will be void. Is this the hassle I think it is or am I thinking too much about it?

Any one have any luck knocking out the middle of the mufflers? If I do knock out the middle, will I have to reflash the ECU? These might sound like dumb questions but I'm new to fuel injected bikes.

The dealer that voids your warrenty has to prove that the modification you chose lead to the failure. Personally, I think you are nuts. If it doesn't improve the performance, don't do it. Poking holes in your baffels could adversly affect the performance and make you the slowest COP magnet in town and void your warrenty by changing your AFR.

This weekend I took off the stockers and made my own baffles and pipes. I used 3’ of galvanized 1 ¾” pipe that I bought from Midas for $10. Included in the price was 2 7” pieces of pipe of 1 1/2”. I expanded 1 end of each of the 1 1/2” pieces to meet the 1 ¾” pipe. On the other end of the smaller pieces, I welded on a washer with a center hole diameter of 1” to create backpressure. I cut the 3’ section in half and then expanded one end of the 1 ¾” pipe to fit over my head pipe. I slipped in the smaller pieces in the front by the head pipe and tacked them in with my mig welder. I cut the rear with a nice looking finishing cut and installed them. Bike sounds mint. I rode it all day Sunday and kept pulling the plug to check for a lean condition. Plug looked perfect all day. I even rode out of the Phoenix valley into the mountains. Plug looks perfect. I am a Lotus mechanic and I know what a lean plug looks like! I am an ASE Master Tech. I AM NOT A HARLEY TECH. I am not going to tell you that this will be for your bike. Whether you want to try it is your decision. If your bike fails, you’re going to be the one dealing with it. I just wanted to share my experience to people looking to customize their exhaust. I love the galvanized look on my Street Bob. I will not be happy until all the chrome is gone! I don’t know how much power was gained but I do know I have a lot more pull from the middle to the top of the power band. It doesn’t have too much of a backfire on deceleration. I am going to make another set and make a power cone to go in it and see what happens. I will take some pictures of the pieces today if anyone is interested.
