Default Bought a 41 UH basket case today

This bike was bought by the long term owner in 1961 and parked it in 1967 and now its in my garage. He still rides in his late 70's, bought it when he was 17 in Northern Ontario and rode it down to southern Ontario where he continues to live and ride.

It was mocked up to give me something that looked like a motorcycle because he had taken it apart and painted the frame over 20 years ago, powder coated the springer front end including the springs. The original gearbox came with the bike but disassembled, belly numbers match, die numbers say late 41, gearbox date is for a 41 as well. correct foot boards, seat post, oil tank, dash, headlight etc. Proper hubs with the well around the grease nipple, rocker clutch is the right one. Barrels are 40 over, aluminum heads, the engine spins freely with no crack repairs.

Frame missed the chopper era and nothing has been cut off, has the right die numbers but cant find one on the steering neck yet. Based on close inspection I just cant see this neck not being original to the frame, I'll be blasting it next week with any luck and have a closer look. The front end is a 41 as well (in my opinion). The die number in Palmers book says 42, the bike is a late 41 so whats the cut off date for the die numbers from one year to the next? My 48 has a die number on the axle clip that isn't in his book, it falls into a gap between known die numbers but makes sense when you apply logic. I had him blast the forging to see the numbers hence the powder on it. Proper damper and ride control, springs, rockers etc.

Correct headlight but no lens, correct tail light with 2 lenses, shifter, shift gate and screws, original primary. Fenders are absolutely trashed, the front not repairable in my opinion but I guess anything is possible. They both have the proper narrow braces thankfully. Tanks are correct flathead tanks and need some tlc, I'll blast them and have them coated inside. I don't imagine they are easy tanks to come by.

I forget what was said about the bars but they are different, they come up higher and wider Im told.

Production numbers I see on line say 126 UH models in 41 and its the last year of the 80". Im pretty happy!

Congratulations! You have a really good network to find all these gems! Looks like you'll have plenty of time on your hands waiting for the snow to melt in June. Have fun, I'm looking forward to another great build thread.

Later 41 frames (which this is) had bolt on tool box brackets.

Did I mention I love my Ford and TWINKIE?

Left side of the neck triangle - picture it up close with the hall mark and its number if you dont mind

it has a 2000 chassis number they did not make that many and i am of the opinion they did them together early to see sales were good - and not a hot seller reason they were the end and a low number built

sure its a now sort after machine - if you need a drain pan i herd through the vine you have a Twinkie tub as a slop sink catcher - good not much else its good for

ford - found onthe road dead —— or — fix or repair daily - he was also a **** sympathizer - and i thought all you frozen kanooks were smarter then that - opps the Twinkie again proved me right again
