At the end of the day, a Harley Flathead is very reliable if rebuilt to factory specs. Anything to make it do anything more than HD intended, stresses out other parts of the motor or transmission. Trust me on that one.
If I was building a BT bobber, I would go all factory, maybe a wee bit more cam if they are readily available. After that, it really is a tractor, it is not going to go fast, maybe just a bit faster than it started.
That said my 45 boogies and she is going cross country in September, we will see how good of an idea that is if we make it to Cali. Who am I to tell you not to hot rod your motor, mine is fully built. But I really only did it to get her to go up a hill/mountain.

I heard Harley dropped the 80" because it could hang with a Knucklehead without breaking a sweat and it was taking sales away from the top shelf engine they offered because it was cheaper. Not sure how much truth there is to that.
