Default 1949 WL Transmission Kick starter

I seem to be having a problem with the kick start pedal as it's starts to click where it catches to start about half way as shown in the pics . Like almost horizontal level if this make sense . Had the transmission rebuilt as it was pretty bad as was run with no oil as bearing where gone. So they went completely thru it .and replaced just about everthing . I only get about a 1/4 kick ,instead of the 3/4 full kick . I thought I would take the kick pedal off and repostion,
This is where it catches solid the pedal .
This is where it catches solid the pedal .
but that won't work as the square shaft has the slot for the bolt .

Are you walking the pistons up to compression before kicking?

It seems like I only have about half of a kick, instead of 3/4 and yes I bring it up to compression . Is there any adjustment I'm missing ?

If you are saying you do not feel any resistance (compression) until the kicker is in the position shown in the picture, I would say that is normal. You don't want to be fighting compression until it is low enough that you can your leg into it. Does the bike start or you are not up to starting yet?
