I Just opened up my "46" Flathead engine case and the pinion gear slipped off the shaft without using a puller.
Is this normal?
One of my books says a puller is needed and the other book says all the gears on this shaft slip on and off.
Which is correct?
I'm thinking it needs to be pressed on because the book goes on to say when installing, push on to have measurement of 5/16 between the gear face and the case half I assume this is to keep tension on the right bearing sealing ring.
Your HELP and input is much appreciated. Thanks
My book says the pinion is a slip fit on the shaft. The book covers OHV and Big Twin Flat heads. My 45 manual aslo says the timing gears are a slip fit.
