Default My Flathead needs a battery.any recommendations ?

Went for a 10 -15 mile ride yesterday and almost made it home with no problem. The bike ran fine except when the battery decided to take a dump on me.Just about a mile from home a car stopped and went and got my wife for me..So the wife shows up with a four wheeler and a piece of rope and towed me home. The bike is still 6 volt and I am going to leave it like that. But I am thinking about getting away from the lead acid battery..

The problem might be with the generator, usually if the coils are no good, or they are
after market, generator can't recharge the battery.
I had this problem few years ago with my 45, I bought new coils from 45 restoration company, and it solved the problem.
I used to test the generator by connecting it to battery, it should start turning. But usually the best resolts u have if you use OEM parts.

First thing - check your battery wires and make sure they're clean and tight. Then check other wires. Wiring is the source of most electrical problems.
As for battery recommendations, I like the stock H2 battery for 6V w/3 brush generator. I tried a 6V gel battery that made my relay go whacky, lights got bright then dim then bright again, then blew out. Put a stock battery back in - no problems. I haven't tried, but maybe the gel battery would be fine with a 2 brush generator and regulator.
If you run a 12V conversion, i.e. Cycle Electric, with a solid state regulator, I love the Battery Tender Lithium-ion battery that fits into the horseshoe oil tank. I've been running one for 3 years and have several friends running them now also.
Hope that helps

He had the problem over 5 years ago, I hope it has been sorted by now.
