Default Where did my wheel weights go?

Although I can't swear to it, I'm 99% sure I had weights on both the front and back cast wheels on my '06 FXDCI. (Due to weather, I'm still under 100 miles on it since I took delivery earlier this week.) Today however, I was cleaning the bike and noticed no weights on either wheel. I have a ride later tonight that will give me a chance to see if I feel any unbalance in the front end but in the mean time, I'm wondering if it is common for weights to fall off a wheel or for new bikes to ship without the weights.

???

Pretty much every bike that comes from the factory has weights on them. You may have thrown them off while riding. All wheels should be balanced to extend the life of the tire and to minimize weat on the components like neck bearings wheel bearings etc. Take it to the dealer and let him check it. You may find an adhesive mark on the wheel where they were or dust that has stuck to the remaing adhesive where the weight was.

Not what I was hoping to hear but thanks for the info.

This sucks. I was planning on finishing my break-in before the weekend was over but past on past experience, I probably won't be able to even get a service appointment until the end of next week. I checked the wheel rims and there is no adhesive residue or other marks that indicate where the weights were. I'm assuming I'm going to have to have both wheels balanced. [:@] Given that the factory-installed weights obviously were not properly attached, is this something that could be considered warranty service or am I SOL?

Assuming I can't get back to the dealer for another week or so, would I be ok to finish my break-in?

That should be covered if they were missing and the wheels are out of balance. You'll know if they balance them and you end up with weights and there were none there before that they were not balanced from the factory

Should I garage the bike until I can get the tires rebalanced - or should I be ok as long as I'm riding at lower (<55mph) speeds until I can get the bike into the dealer?

Pay some attention and see if you can feel a viabration or shimmy, but it should be OK to ride for a while. I would suggest getting it done in any event.

I ordered an Avon Venom to put on the front of my Night Train and my Harley dealer actually gave me one heck of a good price to mount and spin balance the tire. What surprised me is that my Dunlop required several wheel weights and when I picked up my wheel last Thursday there were no weights. When I asked the service writer, he commented 'yeah, surprised us as well. We took it off the machine and put it on again a second time and came up needing no weights'. Skeptical I put the front wheel on and took it out for some break in runs and it doesn't wobble, bounce or vibrate one bit. I wonder if I am just extremely lucky or is Avon a well balanced tire??? I also didn't realize that these tires are made in England...

My '04 BMW K1200RS had Bridgestone BT104 front/back. Neither wheel had weights from the factory and there was absolutely no vibration, shimmy, no nuthin'. i consider the BT104 just a typical OEM tire - nothing that I would swap Avons or Pirellis for - but I was very impressed. I only had about 3k on the bike when I traded it in and there was still at least another 2500 - 3k worth of tread on the tires - not bad when you consider that the KRS is a 130hp sport tourer and I didn't baby it.
