Hi everybody,
I have a 1980 FLT 80 which i have just bought and am putting back on the road. managed to get a new speedo drive cable but cant see how to disconnect the old one from the front wheel. Anyone able to help?
The cable housing is screwed into the drive unit. Rotate the entire housing (the outer sheath of the cable assembly) counter clockwise and it will come out of the unit, of course the speedometer end must be disconnected first in order to rotate the cable housing. There may be a rubber boot at the bottom, just slide it out of the way.
If you have the front wheel off, now would be a good time to service the drive unit, here`s some good info:
I have an 81 FLT. I am replacing the speedo also. The new unit is the same size as the old. But what I go to torque the front wheel it pinches the speedo unit and won't rotate smoothly? It's almost feels like it needs a washer between the bearing and the speedo?
FYI I have never ridin this bike it's was a barn find and I have almost got it road ready
