Default Just got this 1988 FXR !

I finally got a FXR! I was so close to buying a new one off the floor in 2000 (FXR4) but life got in the way. I have had many bikes though the years but the FXR has always been calling me. So I've been looking for about 2-3 years and found this 1988 FXR with just 3500 original miles....everything is stock (except rear wheel I believe). Was in a barn in Maine for 30+ years, owner passed away and family sold it to the guy I got it from. Only issue is I have to rebuild the carb but it runs, motor sounds fine. I'm picking it up later this week and will get carb fixed. Here's some pics....

I'm sitting here just shaking my head as I look at your beautiful find. Congratulations doesn't quite cover it, but damn...what a find.
I keep seeing these kind of stories about old low-mile FXR's showing up but I don't see many stories about "old low-mile" other models and wonder why that is..??
Are people also finding 80's to early 90's vintage dressers and Sportsters like this as well..??
I'm a dedicated FXR guy. I bought my '85 FXRS new in '85 and while I can afford any bike I want..I haven't found a bike I would rather own. 307,000 mi. later and counting, I'm still convinced but that's just me.
Note to OP: If I had that bike in my garage besides the usual required updates on things that might have aged too much...the first ( and possibly the ONLY) actual modification I would do is to install 4" straight risers under those buckhorns.
ENJOY..!!!

Way to go on a great find! Just some words however. I got an 87 FXRC barn find three years ago so let me give you a heads up. Anything made of rubber on this bike may be dried out and could cause you grief down the road. Literally. My 87 had 15K miles on it when I got it and since then, I've found little things like the rubber hoses, brake lines and stuff, motor mounts, seals, swing arm bushings, o-rings, you name it. If it's made of rubber, it may have dry rotted, will fall apart and fail. So be careful. That's a jewel though.

Thank you all for the comments, truly appreciated. I picked her up today, now it's time to pull out the wrenches and get busy on making her road worthy. Could not be happier! Oh Happy Day
