I've had my FXR4 for a year now. IMO, it's the gayist HD graphics I've ever seen on a Harley. I like the color but hate the graphics.
Now, I'm not going to paint the original tins. They are getting packed away. I acquired a take off tank and buying Ness side covers and new fenders. Sending them to my painter near Tampa.
The color a paint scheme will be the same as a 1977 FXS. Probably get everything back in a couple of months and will post pictures. Giddyup!
All tins sent to the painter. They should get started on them Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and it will take approximately 10 business days to complete the work. I think it is going to look excellent on the bike.
Where did you find a tank mounted console tank? I’ve been dying to find one to replace my Arresting Red dented tank and other tins, and had the same plan as you… Luckily I got the dent PDR’ed so all I have to contend with is a couple small chips but still, I’d love to have a blank canvas to work with.
Excellent choice..!
I understand the idea of keeping those original parts, just as they are. Who knows...?? A future owner might feel like riding in a Gay Pride parade someday.

I got the tank off of eBay and paid too much. It is an FXR take off that was really clean inside with a few dings on the outside (the painter will fix no problem). The original FXR tanks are the same as our FXR2/3/4 tanks. I paid $600 for the tank but Elvis would have charged $1200 (so at least I didn't pay that asswipe). He has an FXR4 front fender right now for $500. Maybe I should put the original paint set on eBay for $4,999.00.
That guy Elvis is either a lunatic, or as I said, a genius. There probably are some trust fund babies out there that get it in their heads that they want a FXR, and their builder will buy this for the money is no object build

There aren't that many trust fund babies, just desperate or stupid people. Good for him. He'll never get a dime of my money as I think his "business model" hurts the FXR market and keeping them relevant. But to each his own. Here is a LINK to his completed auctions.
