Default New Tires

I just purchased a pair of Dunlop American Elite tires from JP cycles. I figured they were on sale so why not? They also happen to fit both my Spirtster and my Zipper Glide, so what the hell. Did I read on here that the stealer will give me Chit about installing my tires if I bought them somewhere other than in their place of business?

Go and ask your dealer about their policy. If they decline your business here's a wee secret I'll share with you.

There are options other than your dealer for tire replacement. Find a good indy or (some will shiver) an import bike shop. I'm certain that either would be happy to accept your business.

I bought Avon Cobra 72 rear, and Cobra 71 front for mine.
Have an independent shop that does it for $35 a piece- the rumor is mostly true about dealers.

Don't get pissed at your dealer if they won't install tires you purchased elsewhere.
Most dealers won't.

In fact there are quite a few Indy's that won't either.
Some of course will, but not all.

I agree and OP, if you want to know what your dealership will do, why not ask them and see.

Get an old car rim, hose, c clamp and spoons. Do it yourself and use ride on to balance.

Why pay for such a simple job.?

Good idea. I have at least three dealers in my area, I could call at lest two if not al three as an experiment. It cant hurt. I will get back later with the results of my "research".

I was thinking that myself. my only real concern is scratching the rims all to hell. I know the proper equipment will eliminate that possibility. Stick on weights are a no brainer. Does an old bubble balancer work at all?

Ride on balances the tire for you.

As far as scratching the rim. Use an old hose split and placed on the rim edge to protect the tire. And use cut milk jugs to wrap the spoons when you remove and put on the tire. No scratches that way. I use the c clamp to break the bead.

There are sites that have a how to.
