EVO Engine Problem
If you dropped the carb bowl and cleaned out gunk, you were half done. Any gunk that causes it to starve for gas will be before the needle and seat[fuel intake valve.] Also, replace the rubber line from tank to carb,if you haven't already.
It sounds electrical. Check all the following that your bike has. Kill switch, sidestand (jiffy) cutout, ignition switch.
You could probably just make a jumper to temporarily bypass any kill switches. Definitely start here before you spend any more money.

It looks like I had a cam position sensor going bad. The potting for the wires was melting and when you pushed on the sensor with the engine running it stalled. Thanks to all of you for your posts.
I was going to suggest you have the voltage regulator checked. When they get hot they tend to cause similar problems. Glad you found the culprit. I would still check out the regulator.
Use still have crap in the tank..Might be larger piece of tank liner that is blocking fuel flow.
Then after you may wish to install easy to see fuel filter past the shut-off valve.
