Just don't mess with them too much. I would imagine that they can be vicious. This is a Golden Eagle, but I would imagine not much difference in size to a Bald Eagle?

They are getting more common near Lake Ontario here in N.Y..
Last spring when I took the train down the Hudson Valley to visit my daughter in NYC I saw several along the river, I suspect that we have many throughout the Finger Lakes etc. but I haven't yet seen any there.

It's surreal to see them, as a kid growing up in the 50-60's all you heard about was the decline and they were never seen. Now when I see them everything seems to stand still as I watch. I never take them for granted.

Not quite the same, but similar for turkeys, I love that they are making a comeback.

For forum members out west, I imagine such a scene is commonplace, but in Maryland, bald eagles are still comparatively rare.

Happy New Year, all.
Excellent, excellent, excellent. I think I just experienced it with you having read and pictured what you said. Thanks for sharing!

My husband and I were out riding one day last summer and just as we were getting back into town, we spotted a bald eagle soaring above us. It was a awesome sight, as we had never saw a bald eagle around here before. We live in the central part of Indiana and there aren't any big lakes around here.

I live on the eastern shore of Maryland and I see them almost daily, they have really made a comeback down here. Love to see them fly.

I have seen them here in western New York State nesting on Grand Island in the Niagara River and in the Southern Tier Counties I was told numbers are up and they are using their historic flyways along the shores of the Great Lakes

You must be using a big *** telescope to see anything along the Hudson from Maryland. I've seen quite a few down in the Northern Neck along the Potomac. I also saw one perched in a tree not too far from my house a few years ago. I had to look twice to confirm that it was a bald eagle because there aren't any large bodies of water around here that would attract them.

I think golden eagles are slightly larger than bald eagles, but I take your point. I wouldn't mess with either.

However, in Kazakhstan, there are hunters who tame golden eagles and fly them as though they were falcons. That counts as pretty bad-***, in my book. I'll try to insert a pic:

Also, in an effort to make this motorcycle relevant, I'll note that at least one such hunter has evidently decided to eschew the traditional horse as a mode of transportation:

Hahahaha. I meant the Chesapeake Bay. There are nesting sites all over Aberdeen Proving Grounds. I have no idea wth I was saying Hudson for. Been there too but never saw an eagle there. I saw a lot while stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas also but not nearly the amounts I saw in MD. Beautiful birds.
