Pardon me rocket, I was growing up when the ricers were nothing to brag about at the onset and thereby easy to follow their upbringing in the US. Quality tools back when meant lose one and hard misunderstanding is in effect.
Essentially, Chinese production back then was limited to cheap toys, and not Harley parts. Forgot I was talking to the younger generation who wouldn't know. I have a forgetful mind at this age.
I guess I'm guilty as well, not exactly a spring chicken here,. Lessee.......earliest childhood memory.........oh thats easy; robert kennedy was shot at a democratic convention....
One of the many reasons I like the older bikes. A bit more authentic.
And when I get parts and mods for her.....I go to old swap meets, or resources such as other old Harley parts collectors with garages or barns filled with old parts that were from the US.
I enjoy getting old parts and giving them new life on my bike.
And when I have to get new parts...I try to get "Made in the USA" parts from 3rd party brands.

Was down towards your area a few weeks ago, wife picked up a new car in Branford.
Just had a few peeps over my house Saturday that I usually meet at "The Rib"....we're all so stir-crazy from being stuck indoors with this crap. We started planning a road trip to Lake George for May.
Hi all, I will start by saying I bought my first harley this past oct and love it. Now I was raised around harleys as my dad was in a mc club when I was a kid so I always herd that harleys were superior bc they where american bikes. I have owned many crotch rockets and had my dads friends pick on me. So to the point, why is every genuine harley accessory made in china? Its just kinda funny to me to find out that the guys making jokes during my up bringing were putting made in china stuff on there bikes.
The financial strength and value of the currency of any given country is solely based on it's export power. The greater the dollar value of products they export annually, the stronger their purchasing power. Countries that don't export any big ticket items, are 3rd world. Think of all the machines America exports and you'll see why our country is wealthier than most. All the top tier countries make machinery of some sort that they export. Even countries as small as, say Croatia, make firearms. Switzerland makes watches....etc. The more we buy machinery from other countries, the greater we raise the value of their currency and the more we reduce ours.
The little trinkets, for the most part, are all made in China because American's don't want to make that crap and there's no money in it. All of China's citizens are poor. Go there once and you'll see. We can't compete with that and nobody in America wants to live like that. So let them make all the small little crappy junk like salt and pepper shakers and paper weights. That's not where the money is. The money lies in the machinery and equipment.
