Spoke with my dealer yesterday and he told me that this is good news for them because they will be able to purchase direct from HD, and it will also be good for us (Canadian customers) because it eliminates an intermediate in the process.
Price should go down and availability should be better. They also will be able to get stuff that they never had access to before.

Hope he's right!

I've never heard of Deeley or how HD's were sold in Canada until this post. So, if I sound ignorant that is because I am/was.

Does anyone know if Deeley was buying in bulk, getting a discount and thus providing lower prices than independent dealers will be able to do going forward? i.e....If Deeley bought 10K bikes a year, sold them to the dealers for a profit, will the dealers now get that same price that Deeley was getting when ordering 1% (100 bikes per year) for themselves? Or will they pay more because they are ordering 100 vs 10,000? Same goes for parts. If they only buy a few pallets of HD motor oil versus a whole truck load, will that work out to a higher, lower or same price to the consumer?

I do hope your right, but I still feel dealers around here got use to gouging you so I don't think that will change. Now with the $ dropping they'll blame the price on that

As far as i understand it , prices are still set at the factory . Deeley was the distributor everthing in Canada went through them they are Canadas MOCO ,even the website for HD i am automatically redirected to the deeley Canada website . Prices are set at the release of the model year so the exchange rate in the dollar is set in this case before our dollar dropped . in past years a surcharge has been put in as an adjustment when the dollar fluctuates badly

All i know is if i was Going to buy a new bike now i'd be waiting to see what happens this could really slow down sales if this drags out to 2017

I think that's exactly why the article said they're trying to nail down the details by 3Q15, so customers will be willing to buy the new '16 models and not decide to wait for 2017.

Deeley's VISION: "to fulfill dreams of personal freedom as the preferred partner of Harley-Davidson in Canada"

Nope ! Importers / exporters do spot and forward FX trades with their Bank to hedge against currency fluctuations. This has its limits time-wise so if exchange rates remain high long enough, Canadian retail prices will go up. No way are deals made in foreign markets such that the exporter or the importer simply eats the FX losses. You just couldn't stay in business long taking hits like that.

I'm puzzled as to why, when other types of retail businesses find they are able to procure product cheaper by pooling resourced via "Buying Groups", it is supposed to work just the opposite way for Canadian HD dealers. "Maybe it will",, but that would be the exception rather than the rule.

Well in my case the invoice was mark Freight surcharge from deeleys to the dealer

Accorging to Harleys financial statements all bikes are sold to deeleys wholesale he then sells them to the dealers , percentages will never be known but cutting out one piece of the pie should help

I would be happy if they made a decent HD web site for Canada. The one they have makes touring a Gov't one a pleasure. As for Deeley losing the strangle hold, It doesn't bother me I have a dislike for monopolies at any level including the game.

I must have bought at the wrong time of year. I canvassed 5 dealers throughout Alberta and Sask pricing out a Road King and an Electra Glide Classic. I was ordering from the factory in Jan for a spring delivery. There was about $150 price difference between the high and low prices on each model spec'd out the same. I did most of my dealing over a phone, but I couldn't even get a t shirt thrown in the deal. The second closest dealer got my business because the sales man at the closer dealer was an @ss.
