Alright, looking for any differences I may have missed.
Looking at buying either a Road King or Road King Classic.
Besides the difference insaddle bags, tire (tubed/tube-less), wheels, front fender riding lamp (yes RK, no on RKC) and small diff in price...WHAT AM I MISSING?
i've had a couple of road king classics, but I'd prefer a standard road king. The classic has those leather bags that scratch easily, don't lock, aren't as big as the hard bags. Plus, the seat on the classic is very uncomfortable. Besides all that, the classic has spoke wheels, which requires a tube. So, if you get a flat on the road, you can't just use the fix a flat stuff to get home, like you can with a tubeless tire.
Besides all that, the classic costs more than the standard. I prefer the standard. Maybe that's just me.
edit: Ihave an Ultra, but rarely use the cruise control.
It comes down to the bags really.......do you want leather or the hard bags? I prefer the leather, I think the Classic is a slightly better looking bike (not by much), but as the others have said, there is more work to keeping the leather bags in good shape (but it can be done)
ORIGINAL: GTK
Never heard of trading hard bags for soft, but plenty of people trading soft for hard bags.Cruise can be put on as a accessory, easy install.
Friend of mine did but when he sold bike, he put hard bags back on bike.

The hard bags lock, and hold more stuff. The classic also runs the laced wheels, which require a tube, so you can't plug the tire on the road. Not to mention that the classic has the most uncomfortable stock seat of any Harley Davidson.
I've had a couple road king classics, so I know that from which I speak.
I think everyone has pretty much captured the differences. I don't think you can go wrong with either a Standard or a Classic. I chose the Classic because I liked the look better. I like my leather bags. Keep them clean and conditioned, and they stay looking just fine. My '05 has just under 16K miles and the bags still look great! And I don't think any stock Road King seat is very good. Most folks change seats as there first upgrade anyway.
It should boil down to what you like the best. Good luck with your decision. You'll be happy either way!
