Unless there's some other compelling reason, I never get off the bike to fill it up. I do have to admit, though, that it's far easier to fill up the bike while sitting that it is fill up my truck.

I get off the bike every time no matter if its two minutes on the bike or two hours. I also stand outside by the pump while fueling my vehicle no matter what the weather/temp is like

I stand beside my bikes when I fill them at the gas pump. It's too hard to drop and roll with a motorcycle between my legs.

Interesting thread. I find it more interesting of how many put the gas cap on their seat, or against the W/S. Putting a cap that is in constant contact with fuel, either in liquid or gas state, on top of a leather seat doesn't appeal to me, nor placing it anywhere it could scratch the bike. I always place it on top of the pump, on the ground or on my floorboards. Anywhere but on the bike. Not worried about forgetting about it. That'd be like forgetting to start your motor before riding away. Somethings are just natural in nature to do.

[QUOTE=ramblin5;

So, how many of you fill up while sitting on the bike? I for one have never done it. After two or three hours on the bike I'm always ready to get off and stretch a bit. Also, much easier to get to the wallet, stick credit card into pump, and go to the bathroom.[/QUOTE]

God, Paul, What a Pussie!!!

After fueling from the saddle, I run the bike in one door, **** in the ashtray at checkout, toss some cash on the counter, and ride out the other door, popping a "wheelie"... all the while looking in my mirrors to see just how "COOL" I look while doing it!!!I

AND... If I have to explain it to you... well...

I guess I don't know how...

Stay Well,

Jim aka kiltiemon

Always did on my Sporty, rarely did on my 'Glide, never do on my Freewheeler.

I don't see why some here think the process of filling their tank is some complicated formula akin to rocket science. Anyone that is relying on the auto shutoff is just plain foolish. I sit on the bike. I know how much gas I need when I pull in. I regulate the flow myself. When I add the last 3/4 of a gallon I'm down to a low flow. The last quart or so it's at a trickle.

Seriously folks, how hard is this? Geez!

I get off the bike to swipe card and place cap somewhere I can remember it. Once I have the nozzle I straddle the bike and begin fueling. I don't think I've ever stood to the side and filled up or maybe I have just don't recall such things.

I don't have any plans on riding in OR and NJ so a full service station isn't an issue.

Off the bike is the only way for me. I put the gas cap on the seat, top side down & have never had an issue. As far as full service stations in OR, the attendants just turn on the pumps & they let me pump my own fuel.
