It is easier for me to fill while standing beside my scooter. Easier to get my credit card and swipe it in the gas pump. And most important compress the sometimes strong spring pushing the part of the nozzle that is meant to seal the gas tank opening and prevent gas vapors from escaping. While looking into the opening to stop before the level reaches the top of the opening.

As I get older I find myself doing that. I also sit to pee more too. Getting old sucks.

Sheltered? Maybe. I've only had my driver's license since 1985 and only put about 20,000 - 25,000 miles/yr on my vehicles, so I don't fill up much and rarely hit the gas station.

I've never seen it, but then again I've never been to Michigan.

I never thought my simple story would cause such a stir, very interesting.

Side note, I actually find filling the tank when next to the bike more difficult. I wind up in an uncomfortable half crouch/bend trying to look inside the tank. Sitting on the bike, I have a nice clear view of what is going on.

Not sure how you can't pull up to the pump close enough to pull out your wallet and run the card through the machine. Like I stated, I even put the cap on TOP of the pump, no reach issue at all. So many responses I am tempted to post a video of me getting fuel!

A 100 ways to do everything, the right one is the one that works for you.

Not in Vegas, for the reasons I mentioned in post #41.

I used to see it done here years ago. But not since the 'air pollution' changes.

I've always wondered how the aircrews back in WWII in the Pacific could stand it. I've read numerous places that they washed their clothes in high octane aviation fuel. That, coupled with the humid hot weather? How did that work?

I'm assuming they didn't put their clothes on "wet". Otherwise, it's just like "dry cleaning", which is not really "dry" at all, but involves washing the clothes in a solvent instead of water.

Always get off my bike when I get gas. Most of the time, the brief time that I am standing putting gas in my bike is all the time that I need to relax a little and then when I am done filling, I am ready to ride again, simple.
