The city of Sturgis has been working for years trying to annex that area while not having to grab all the land in between. Its all about tax revenue. The chip will be able to take their 2% share of sales tax. Given the limited land area that will more than pay to keep necessary services on hand and pay for some nice improvements. They will also get a chunk of their property taxes back.
