Also I have had luck cleaning of bugs using Scotch-Brite Non-Scratch scouring pads on non-painted surfaces. Although I have used them on my powder-coated black handlebars without scratching them.
Just an opinion ... If the OP doesn't know or trust a product recommended for doing the job ( Bug and Tar Remover ), why would anyone suggest a product that will ( more than likely ) be likely to cause damage ... There's no way I'd use any sort of "scouring device" on a painted surface that I wasn't prepared to repaint ... I've refinishing/repainted vehicles for years and I'd NEVER use a scotchbrite or any other type of scouring pad on a finished paint surface ... even if the manufacturer recommended it ... Do as "Philly" suggested and use a cloth with warm water if the bugs are very stubborn
Thanks guys I was thinking about places like the head light housing, and handlebars, and the crash bars, and things like that, but I love the idea of hot water and a towel for the front of the gas tank and front finder. So thank you, to all of you.
I hate cleaning my Street Glide, it's black and shows everything.bugs are a pain in the butt. I've tried removers and different methods.
This last cleaning, I found the absolute best way possible to remove bugs. I went to Advance Auto looking for another remover, instead I spent $1.99 on a "bug remover" sponge. It is a spong wrapped in a perforated cover. I went home, filled a bucket of plain hot tap water (my tap water is pretty hot btw). I soaked the sponge and wrang it out well then lightly wiped the bugs off...it was that easy. As I slowly wiped I could see water vapor form in front of the sponge as I moved along. I rinsed and repeated, over paint AND chrome. Then I lightly wiped everything down with a terry cloth, then some detail spray and a clean terry cloth. I was impressed, super super easy. I would recommend this method.
EDIT: this method also doesn't remove wax, water was still beading, thus the quick detail spray
For bugs 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and water, spray it on and they melt right off.
Been using that for years and no ill effects on paint or Chrome.
Tar, I still struggle with that
