Make a price list of all the parts & labor required to get the Harley to where you would be happy.

Take the total and ride a non-Harley in that price range.

What do you spend your money on?

If you do a Stage 1 upgrade on your Softail; a freer flowing air cleaner, plus freer flowing exhaust without catalytic converters, plus retune the bike, you absolutely will feel a significant difference, particularly at low to mid range rpm, which is where you do the vast majority of your riding.

The throttle response will be better, and the pull at lower rpm will definitely make you happy you did it. In addition, the new tune will make the air fuel ratio a little richer, and the bike will run cooler.

I'm not sure how many miles you have on your bike, but I found that after putting about 5,000 miles on the engine and adding a stage 1 (with tuner) allowed me to ride smoothly and accelerate from the lower RPM range, about 1,800. When the bike was newer, and stock, I couldn't ride under 2,300 without chugging the motor and losing power.

Harley's have a short rev range. I can basically ride between 1,800 and 4,000. I can accelerate through 5,500, but that not the norm. 1,800 through 4,000 is about average.

That is a very short range and I find myself shifting constantly with spirited riding. I don't think there's any way to avoid that outside of buying an inline 4 cylinder.

Frequent shifting through the twisties was annoying at first, coming from 4 cylinder sportbikes, but I got used to it and now it's not that big a deal.

Stage 1 would be the first step, but the gearing is too high. The easiest way to change it would be to install an Evolution-Industries 49 tooth clutch basket.

When I put a VIED fuel enrichener on my 103, I could immediately feel it pulling better down low. Before I needed at least 2200 rpm for throttle response, and now could feel it coming on as low as 1800 rpm.

I needed to slip the throttle far less taking off from a stop, and riding double I needed to down shift far less.

Think this is what the OP is trying to accomplish. Be able to just roll on the throttle a bit sooner, at low revs.

Believe that a good aftermarket tuner will accomplish the same result, but they cost a bit more.

I just recently did my 2010 StreetGlide, stock 96 motor. I waited 5 years and 60K miles.
Now I wonder WHY I waited. Night vs Day. Do it.

By the way I think the 2015 bikes are all Project Rushmore.
