Default Correct staggered formation

Have to put this out there for those that haven't given it any thought...when 2 or more bikers are riding together, the staggered formation is the safest way to ride so that others can see you easier. Here's the part that I see some people doing wrong....the 1st rider in formation is supposed to ride in the left 3rd of the lane, not the right 3rd. In other words, if you are the first rider, ride on the "driver's side" of your lane so that it puts you in the sideview mirror of the car in front of you. Otherwise, the car in front of you may not see you.

It is crazy how many people do not know or understand how to ride in a group.

Yep. I hate to see bikers put themselves in bad/dangerous positions, but I see these situations over and over. Just figured I'd put this out there to hopefully help the light bulb come on for some.

They will probably dismiss it or not read it. We just went to a local bike night that we had never been to. I told my buddy ( he has been riding for 15 years) we would follow him as he knew where it was. That was the scariest ride i have been on in a group, He was left, right, middle, changing lanes. Doing 70mph, then 85mph, making turns without signals or regard that there were 3 more bikes behind him. That was the first and last time i do any group riding with him. . I have ridden with him 8 or 9 times but normally I lead. I am so used to riding with the group that i normally tour with so my expectation were that he knew how to ride in a group.

What slays me is the friggin' drag race after making a corner. I realize the lead bikes have to make room but not 20 over the limit for a mile. Then there are those who want to ride with their buds.

Yeah, Show, it always amazes me that people that have been riding for a good chunk of time still suck at it. I had a guy that I rode with a few times that was the same way when he was leading. I actually saw him get separated from the majority of the group at one point and just continue on like it didn't matter. Some people shouldn't run out front.

Fixed it for you.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Rule Number 2: Do not just join in cuz you are on a bike. Ask, keep your distance or be told to go away (in not so polite terms...)

agreed.. you stay in formation...

It's an unspoken rule with the two guys I ride with... we never have had to tell each other hey jackass, stop weaving all over the damn place or pulling to the front or back.. we start and stop in the same position.

How about changing lanes. If i am on the left side of the lane and we are merging right, I always wait until the bike in front of and directly behind me cross the line before i move if possible.
