RE: WTF Is up withe the extra 1K tacked on Softails?
Skip,
I have not been to the new store yet. I had my 10k done on my Heritage up there during one of the last weeks they were at the old place. My buddies swear by their service and they were pretty awesome. I plan on getting the first service done up there on my Ultra. 120 miles each way, but hell, that's what we bought them for... to ride.
Helix,
Several of the DFW stores share common ownership. If you are looking for a new bike, PM and I will give you the name of either a contact at American Eagle or a contact at Red River. RR sells everything at MSRP, even their CVO bikes. The only reason I did not buy my ULtra from them was they did not have any coming in. I actually have a deposit on a 2008 model, just to hedge my bet. No way I can afford two, but I can always sell one (just sold my Heritage) to make room for another.
RE: WTF Is up withe the extra 1K tacked on Softails?
Generally speaking here in New England all '07Harleys are right at MSRP. The days of sticking it in the a$$ to perspective buying customers seems to be done with. Especially now, that the cat's out of the bag about theissue ridden6 speed trannys on the '07's. Consequently, used, desirable softails, and low milage tourers are almost impossible to find. I am dam glad I bought late in the winter !!

Ya'll bring up some great points. Ill call some dealers In Oklahoma and see if they are jacking the price up. I wasnt aware that the dealerships had an association.Since the dealers are privately owned Im guessing HD has no control over them at all. I was just amazed that all the sudden the prices shot up 1K.
Silverdawg - I bought My Sportster and My Bob form North Texas Harley. I thought they were above this kind of crap.Although they do charge $500 for freight even though HD says only $250. Im going to call Red River in the morning to see what thier prices are. If its Normal then its a DFW area dealership SCAM to get more $$.
It's not so much an association Helix, but more of a Gentlemans agreement between dealers in a given area. We do the same thing up here in Canada and sometimes it's a good thing, but for a bunch of dealers to get together and say "I'll raise my price if we all agree to do it" is a bit sleazy......but they do have the right to sell for whatever they want. It's just thatin this day and age, there is no reason for a customer to pay over MSRP...........there are dealers all over the U.S. that will sell at or below the MSRP, so take your business elsewhere.

I'm going to call NT Harley this morning and see if they're playing this game. I was in there yesterday and I didn't notice any additional markups on the baggers or softails but then again, I wasn't really paying much attention. In the 3 years I've been doing business with them and American Eagle (owned by the same people), I've never seen them charge anything but the factory list for freight ($335 on my latest Road Glide). They do charge a setup fee and unless you buy the bike as soon as it comes out of the crate, it immediately gets chromed and tuned for additional $$$.
RE: WTF Is up withe the extra 1K tacked on Softails?
This is the exact opposite of a year ago. I bought my bike almost exactly a year ago and the dealer was giving a 1k store creditwith the purchase of any new bike. Can't see how the strike would make them think they could get away with charging an extra1k on some models. Like others have said.....just wait for the '08's.
RE: WTF Is up withe the extra 1K tacked on Softails?
"Several analysts saw a silver lining in the labor action, arguing shipment were higher than most expected. And even though they were sharply lower than a year ago, this may relieve some downward pressure on pricing by clearing out dealership inventories."

Just bought my '07 Road King on Monday here in San Antonio, TX.
Browsing the store as recently as Monday and NO MARK-UPS here.
$1k is a lotta cheese.
You might be better coming down from Dallas to buy your bike.
I paid just shy of MSRP and got a nice gift cert for parts,PLUSa helmet for my purchase.
I did a little rough dealing and it took a little fancy footwork but this was the best deal I could pull.
Given the subject of this thread,I guess I should be happy I was at ANYTHING less than MSRP.
RE: WTF Is up withe the extra 1K tacked on Softails?
Just got off the phone... HD of North Texas and American Eagle HD are not jacking up the prices of their baggers or softtails. They still selling at MSRP + Shipping/Setup.
