Apparently my wife was talking on the phone with her brother tonight.
He informed her to plan on he and I taking off for a weekend next summer without her and his wife. I like how this guy thinks. We have always traveled with our wives on our Bike trips and always have a good time,
and enjoy each others company. It was Bar Harbor this year. You probably know what I mean. Some people you just seem to travel well with without any drama.
But, it will be fun and different to ride just he and I .
Sooo... weekend trip from Western NY!. Off the top of my head i'm thinking Beers, Blues and BBQ, plus good hard riding. Got all winter to kick around ideas, plus we can travel in comfort, I have comp hotel nights up the ying yang. Open to any suggestions Gentlemen, and Ladies.
That is certainly very nice of the ladies to recommend a ride for the boys only. It's nice that you get along so well with your brother-in-law.
I'm from Long Island and spent 8 years in Ithaca. Upstate NY this time of year is phenomenal. Now, a couple of months from now is a different story. Winter I can do without, thank you.
Well, my destination for the two of you is a bit more than a weekend trip from western NY. That would be Austin, Texas. A great place for beer, Blues and BBQ. There are countless micro breweries. Can you say SRV? And BBQ... we are talking Texas BBQ. Also, riding in the Texas Hill Country is great. You wouldn't know which direction to start riding. A short 3 hour ride from Austin are The Three Sisters.
Who knows, maybe you can convince the wives that you need a week instead of a weekend?
I would suggest Lake George or the Lake Placid for your base. It`s about a 5 hr. ride or longer depending on your route. Plus you only have 2 1/2 days. You can then ride the area.
I agree with Odog002 with a slight deviation. Plan a route to Lake Placid through Old Forge and Blue Mountain Lake. Lunch at Old Forge as there are plenty of good restaurants being a summer resort and winter snowmobile destination. Visit the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake. Book a room in Lake Placid which is awesome in the summer. Start out early on day two and go through Burlington, Vermont. Tour Vermont's awesome roads and work your way through Lake George with a room in Saratoga Springs, NY. Saratoga has a great Main Street which has been totally restored with outdoor dining and people watching. Don't know why but Saratoga attracts great scenery as the "talent" is almost equal to NY city. Maybe because Skidmore College is there which is predominantly female. From Saratoga you can zip home via the Northway/I90 route or take some deviations off the highway. I'm jealous already!

Program the location of all the strip clubs along your route into your cell phone so they're easier to find.
Don't know of any strip clubs in Lake Placid or Saratoga Springs. There was one in Old Forge that we hit during a snowmobile trip a few years ago. Can't say for sure if it's still there.
Kids... Wait till the day that you Son call's ya and say's "Hey Pop,,, let's go for a Week's ride, just you and me without the women.
Then you will really know how good of a job you've done as a Father.
Your B-I-L maybe only wanting to get out of the house as much as you seem to be wanting to.
