I've ridden in everything including a 3 piece suit during the summertime in Ohio, but since moving down here to NC, I ride between 15,000 and 20,000 miles per year mostly commuting. If the temps start in the 40's and end up in at least the 50's by days end, I'm good to go. (I don't have to wear a suit to work anymore. 76 mile round trip and 154,000 miles on the bike.)

I work from home 4 days a week. I ride in the summer on my 1 day in the office. It's not near enough but I will take what I can get and am jealous of those with the opportunity to ride more.

Texas weather isn't too bad. Winter has bad weeks with snow and ice but they go quickly. Summer can be brutal hot and August is when I drive the car most.

As far as work goes, I'm a pastor at a church called Gateway Church and openijg a new Dallas campus. We have a great group of motorcycle riders in the church. Jesus would have road a Harley
My best times with the Lord are on the bike.
Yep riding a bike can be a very religious experience at times.

I commute everyday possible, 17mi one way to my main job. Second job is kind of on the way home and 7mi from my house. My boss at my main job lets me park my bike in his garage next to his street glide if I wish... Not a bad gig, and my work truck is there that I drive checking cows and pulling equipment and hay.

But as far as commuting on a bike, it's just about keeping yourself safe. Which really is paying attention to all vehicles around you and those at driveways and such adjacent to the road you're on so they don't pull out in front of you. You get accustomed to your route and know where odd places are and where you really need to look out for cars.

my commute at the new house is like 12 miles round trip.. but it can be very trafficy. It usually takes 35-40 minutes each way.

I commute 130 miles round trip a few days a week weather permitting. I'll ride if there is a chance of rain, but if it's raining bad before I leave the house I'll pass. Anything above freezing I'll ride. My setup is similar to the OP's... Windshield, T-Bag on the rear. I wear full gear most of my riding (I cheat with the pants in the summer until I buy some bohn armor and kevlar jeans). But my Spring/fall/winter gear has waterproof baked in. I also have some Gerbing gear for the cold days.

I ride to work every day, 72 miles round trip. Got the new street glide in july and have 14700 on the clock. Always carry rain gear cause in Florida ya never know. June through Sept it rains just about every day in the afternoon.

My commute is 117 miles round trip. My Street Bob shares commuting dutys with my trusty Triumph Bonneville. I've put more than 30,000 miles spread between the two bikes this year, and only 4,000 on my Jeep. Aside from a 2400 mile trip on the Triumph this spring, and two 600 mile trips in the Jeep, all of the miles are commuting, with the occasional weekend outing.

I've been retired for a while, but when I was working, I stopped riding to work years ago, especially when the commute got longer and we started "car pooling".

For me, my bike is for my enjoyment.
Riding to work started to become....well, like work.

However, everyone is different so if you enjoy riding to and from work, then by all means, get your stuff together and go for it.
Life is too short so you gotta make yourself happy!
