Over the years I have met some good people out riding around and some others that just do not know how to get along. Thankfully the latter are far and few between. Meeting on the road is never the same with every biker, knowing that I ride the way I always do and usually blow on by or am riding a little too fast for most to be comfortable with.
Either way most all roads are public we all have the right to drive/ride on them so no need to make excuses how or where I am in the lane.
IMHO staying safe is all about "riding your own bike" and "being in control". Ergo, to me, unless its organized from the start, all this group riding stuff does not apply. With regard to encountered riders, I ride at a distance that allows me to be in my preferred lane at any given time I choose. At stops, common courtesy is never wrong nor misunderstood. Being presumptuous in any social setting can have awkward results and I don't recall sitting on motorcycles as creating an exception to this rule. Thats just me. If someone else breaks social protocol,,??,, well **** happens, time to cope and not get all tender about it; big boy pants and all that. "Just me again".
As to encountered riders doing the wrong thing on the road, "welcome to the public highway, where the wrong thing is the order of the day". Assuming otherwise will get your *** in a sling no matter if the "at fault" vehicle has 2 wheels or 18.
Just for my own knowledge and understanding.......
I am riding down the highway, traffic is somewhat heavy....another bike comes by....what's the protocol if i wanted to ride behind him but not side by side nor real near to him....i figured two bikes are better seen then one.....
Do other bikeers mind, i certainly wouldn't if another joins behind me and doesn't impede my lane or escape route......i would ne ok in a staggered formation....
Personally, I will stagger off them, but still maintain my standard safe following distance. I hate it when people come up and tuck right in behind me like we're in a group ride. I don't know who they are and what their skill set is. Like many others said, I only ride with a select few and we all know how each other rides.
