Seriously, the 'only' benefit for me in being a 'HOG' member is the Extended Roadside Assistance policy. I seem to have a penchant for picking up nails, so I always renew if I haven't traded bikes lately. Of course I have to buy up to get the extra coverage.
I tried another RA once. We had a flat, 150 miles from home, on Sunday afternoon, no cell reception and tire too mangled for plugs.
The woman on the phone from Allstate RA said, "I can't help you." I asked "why?" She said, "there is no one in that area to help you."
Funny, I called one towing company, (after we got down the road hunting cell reception), and he came and got us and the bike and hauled us all the way home.
Cost me $400 bucks but at least Allstate reimbursed me.
Monday morning I canceled Allstate and went back with HOG RA.
I'll stay with HOG until they let me down.

Darn shame you have to belong to the national chapter to qualify for your local chapter. I'd much rather "pay to belong" to my local chapter. $50 is a lot for a magazine( altho, I do spend $41 for 2 years of MCN...)

So thanks guys. I got out of this the need to look into the local chapter. I need to get involved and get some more riding buddies and opportunities. Only thing I don't need HOG for is 10% off all purchases and 15% off AT&T; already get both through another method.

Yup! That's an understatement. I am not a young guy, I'm a gear head like most of us, and I've been on about 10-12 auto/Moto related forums over the years for about 15 years or so now. This is bar none, hands down, the worst forum I have ever been associated with, and the first beginning replies to this thread are living proof. I've been a member of a Ducati forum and group for about 12 years or so. As a general rule, people not into Ducati, perceive us owners as pretensions pre madonnas. That group is the exact polar opposite of what I've experienced here. I'm just glad my in person experience with the Harley scene and people (on my first Harley about 10 months now) does not match my experiences in here. And I am not a thin skinned dude. Oh well...such is life.

Thanks to those that did respond with useful stuff...I learned something as stated above.

Hey Shek,
I've been on your run. Had a great time. Have you been on our (Liberty Harley Davidson, Rahway NJ) Toy Run to RWJ Childrens Hospital? We've been doing it for 17 years now.
Last year we had 60+ chapter rides so it's a very active chapter.

Living in the Los Angeles area there are a lot of dealers and so there are also quite a few HOG Chapters. My wife and I visited 5 of them. Each was different and each had, for lack of a better word, it's own personality. We did find one that we felt really comfortable with and have enjoyed many rides, events and just enjoying the company and conversation with folks with whom we share a mutual interest.
