To me it's worth it, I ride with my local HOG group so I have to be a national member. I get 10% discount at the dealership on everything. I like the touring handbook that is sent annually with the maps. I picked up my HOG pin at Daytona.
Although my insurance will cover towing, so does the HOG membership, hope I never need it of course.
Wow!!!
It's great!!
You can do ............this.
And you are able to do ............that.
You get .................this and ............those.
You have exclusive acceptance to................something.
BUT, best of all you have a ....................magazine.
Go and meet your local HOG chapter and see what they do. If they are cool people with a good schedule of rides that you would be interested in joining, then join! If not, find another one nearby or give it a miss completely.
My local chapter is very, very good. There is a packed schedule of rides to interesting places all over the country and further afield. Day long rides, but also many long weekend and even week long trips away. The first chapter ride of the year was last Sunday - it was 34F but we were out anyway having fun on our bikes.
We won the UK mileage competition this year with 672,762 miles registered between us. To put that into perspective, the Chelsea and Fulham chapter registered 4,033 between them - so they probably didn't even get out of the dealership car park. So as you can see - there's a big difference between various HOG chapters. If you find one that you like, then there can be a lot of good stuff do to and good people to meet and ride with.
