Hey...I got a jacket a few years ago just for fun that is Tan instead of black like my main coat; it matches the trim color on my bike exactly....kind of fun change of pace around town. Anyway, it is not waterproof. I coated it with some kind of oil stuff or silicone a few years ago but it still soaks water like a sponge. Any of you guys know of something that will really waterproof it like a good riding jacket?
How much 'waterproofing' are you talking about? Standing in the rain waterproofing? Of 70mph waterproofing?
You'll play hell keeping it dry at highway speeds, most of the water will soak from the inside/out as it runs up your sleeves, down your neck, etc. You'd be better off getting a cheap rain jacket to toss on when the skies open up.
If you want 'stand around' dryness, like was posted, try some Mink Oil. Or silicone spray.
Myself and many I know use the Kiwi 'Camp Dry' 13% silicone spray on boots, jackets, saddlebags, and other items.
One application usually lasts for 6 or more months.
Back of the spray can reads, in part;
"Heavy Duty Water Repellent, silicone bonds to leather and fabric to create an extremely tough water barrier, while still allowing the article to breathe. Ideal for tents, tarps, heavy work boots, hunting and work apparel, backpacks, and boat covers. odorless when throughly dried and cured."
thanks guys, I will try one of those. It is just stand around soak I am talking about, in town, no windshield. On the road I am fine, good leather....gloves get wet though.
