I've been hit by a lot of bugs and it's never really bothered me, but today I swear the bee that hit me today was flying stinger first, when I got home there was still chunks of bee in my beard
We have these red wasps here in Arkansas that can sting you between four and six times before you can get pulled over and your shirt or pants or whatever ripped off.
And come to think of it, this may be where many of todays popular dance moves have evolved from.
I took one in the mouth at 70 mph last summer... Damn thing lodged between my teeth and lip in the side of my mouth. I was spitting like crazy to get it out, it was in pieces. Then suddenly, my face felt like it was on fire. I pulled off the road right where a police car was sitting. I have never been stung before, but I remember watching my Mom nearly dying from an allergic reaction. I never new if I was allergic.
I inspected the damage in my mirror and I had about a quarter inch cut in my mouth. I squeezed out the blood just in case. The cop had a good laugh, and I hung out with him for about 10 minutes to make sure I didnt swell up like my Mom did.
Moral of the story... I know its hard, but I highly advise not smiling ear to ear while riding. Keep your mouth shut!
Years ago caught one between my helmet and my right temple. Stung me 4 or 5 times before I could get pulled over and get the helmet off. My temple swelled up so badly that I had to ride home without the helmet on, then treated it with gobs of baking soda for the rest of the day.
(It was only later that I learned that a multiple sting so close to the brain can kill you....)
My 3/4 helmet seems to attract them. Last Sunday, I had one fly in the right side of my helmet while going down the road at 60 MPH. I was swatting at the bee with my left hand and eventually knocked the bee out of the helmet. I felt a sharp pain for a second but didn't think anything of it.
The next morning on Monday, I awake to a bright red swollen ear lobe on my right side that was probably 5-10 times its normal size and throbbing. It stayed that way until Wednesday when I went to the doc who prescribed 500 mg of Cephalexin and fortunately my ear is getting better and only a bit red and swollen today. Those bees suck!
