Probably because it was a twinkie rehash of the original 1971 shovel superglide without the ducktail.
I'm hoping my 100 yr anniversary Fatboy is a collectors item one day. Probably won't be but I enjoy it every ride I take. I don't see many 100 yr anniversary models nowadays.
And what's with the 105 anniversary model? I never understood that one. It's not really a milestone year. And just 5 years after the previous anniversary model. I guess just a sales gimmick.
Of the three bikes that I have, my '98 Heritage Springer (FLSTS) 95th Anniversary Edition, will be the one bike I'll have 'till the end.
EVO (carbed) with straight Samson Fishtails and lots of chrome accessories she is a CLASSIC for sure.
I rarely ride it (it's got about 9500 miles on it) but I do occasionally take it for a short weekend ride.
I doubt that I'll ever be able to get what I have invested in it and I wouldn't be happy selling it for what most people would want to pay for it so she sits where she is.
My bike will be collectable. I saw a Silver/Black Gold Key Package, 100th Anniversary FLHTCUI, gleaming in the Sun, in Prairie du Chien. I thought it was the most gorgeous bike I ever saw.
Later that year, I was fortunate enough to find one for myself. Still my favorite bike.
