I stumbled across the forums while researching motorcycle airbags. I am recovering from a near-fatal accident last month and beginning to wonder why Harley doesn't even offer them on any models? I had a beautiful desert sand on canyon brown Ultra Limited which did not survive the crash. Honda debuted an airbag 10 years ago. The more research I do, the more shocked I've become that Harley seems to be ignoring airbags.
Anyhow, I miss riding already. Will probably ride again one day. There is just nothing else like it. But probably won't be on a Harley unless the start offering airbags.
Mike, glad you're still with us. Best thoughts for a full recovery.
Harley's may be many things, but technologically innovative, they are not. BMW introduced ABS brakes on motorcycles in 1988. Harley, and most HD buyers are still not sold on that technology. Try going into a HD dealer and ask a salesperson which of their bikes has Traction Control.
As far as airbags, Honda is the only manufacturer that sells bikes with them installed. There are several jacket/clothing installed airbags from different manufacturers, do a search.
But since you're looking for new technology, take a look at this:
After the Takata airbag debacle, I'm GLAD my Harley doesn't have an airbag. Motorcycling is dangerous enough without having to have an IED aimed at my face.
I'm sorry about your accident, and hope you heal soon. I'm wondering why you didn't buy a Honda in the first place.
