I think it was CSI over on ADV said their plea bargains (for testifying against R Robinson) would get them 15-20 at sentencing

If one of them had immediately after the murder had a lawyer approach the DA with an immunity deal one of them would've gotten off scot free. But of course people like that aren't that smart or they wouldn't be involved in stealing bikes in the first place.

The key words being "after you're caught." If someone is going to do this they have to do it before they are caught. It doesn't happen very often. Prosecutors hate to do it but sometimes they feel they have to to solve the case and get convictions on someone. There was one case in particular in my area where the public got really upset about the deal being made and the accomplice getting off scot free, but the prosecutor said it was necessary to get a conviction on the others at the time. This only works for someone if they immediately make the arrangements, before the investigators have evidence to connect that person to the crime. The longer they wait, the more potential opportunities the investigators have to solve the case without the testimony.

I am assuming the Tampering was him trying to get his OL to stay quiet.

With a minimum of 46.75 years mandatory they should have just taken him out back of the courthouse and been done with it.
